2021 AFCON: Kwesi Appiah blames Black Stars over defeat to Morocco

Ghanaian striker Kwesi Appiah has put the blame on the Black Stars’ opening day defeat to Morocco on the loss of concentration by the Ghana defence.

Angers attacker Sofiane Boufal nicked the maximum points for the Atlas Lions from North Africa with 7 minutes of regulation time left to play.

Angers star-man Sofiane Boufal twisted and turned his way through the Ghana backline beating Alexander Djiku and Daniel Amartey in the process before unleashing a fierce drive that beat Joseph Luke Wollacott in Ghana post.

Morocco could have increased their lead to 2-0 moments later but it took goalkeeper Joseph Wollacott to firmly deflect a powerful shot from inside the box.

And, 31-year-old Crawley forward Kwesi Appiah who featured for the Black Stars during the 2015 campaign in Equatorial Guinea, has taken to Twitter to comment about the performance of the Black Stars.

“Poor opening group game. No real danger from either side. A lot of room for improvement [for Ghana],” Appiah Tweeted.

“Morocco just nicked the win from a lapse of concentration in defence. Poor goal to conceded,” he added

Appiah has been capped 7 times by Ghana and has two goals to his credit.
