Hon Hadji Mustaphar

A member of the NDC national Zango caucus working committee, Hon Hadji Mustapahar, has questioned the government’s motive over the alleged deployment of the military to the Volta Regions in a bid to prevent aliens and foreigners from taking part in the new voters’ registration exercise.

According to him, the NPP Government is reported to have deployed a lot of security personnel in the aforementioned regions which have raised major fear and panic among residents of Ketu South.

He added that according to the chiefs and locals, the situation is to abuse and intimidate them.

The Minority from the Volta caucus has condemned the move by the NPP government describing it suspicious and undemocratic.

A Member of Parliament for Adansi-Asokwa, K.T. Hammond, in defence of the government , claimed the military is only there to “control the country’s borders” to ensure foreigners do not sneak in to include their names in the new register.

“The military is there to make sure you vote if you are a Ghanaian and if you have the constitutional right to vote. They are not electoral officers but they are peacekeeping forces. They are keeping the peace He said.
How can a sitting member of Parliament speak this way?
