Former Deputy Energy Minister, John Jinapor has accused the Akufo-Addo administration of turning the clock of time backward, especially in the energy sector.

Speaking at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Policy Dialogue Series on Ghana’s energy sector Mr. Jinapor said the John Mahama led administration played a massive role to improve the energy sector but the Akufo Addo led government instead of building upon the solid foundation laid, is rather taking the nation backward.

According to him, the NDC when was in power passed the game changing gas master plan which was aimed at utilizing our gas led to the construction of the Atuabo gas plant.

Also, they aimed at producing oil which led to creating three fields and ensured increasing our stake in this field. Therefore, they increased our stake in the jubilee field to 13.6%, increase to 15% when the tean field was created and increased to about 20% in the Sankofa gyenyame field.

The member of Parliament for Yapei Kusawgu Constituency added that, when they were leaving power, they handed over the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah, FPSO Atta Mills and FPSO Kuffour which is producing about 160,000 barrels a day, and Ghana has received about $5 billion over the past ten years out of it.

Mr. Jinapor said since you need certainty, reliability and predictability in the oil sector, Ex-President Mahama took a bold step to settle the dispute between Ghana and Ivory Coast.

This he said pointed out to be a great impact the Mahama led government had on the energy sector which has been destroyed by the Akufo Addo led government.

He claimed this government has nothing better to offer to the nation than various scandals in all the sectors especially the energy sector, including the PDS scandal, BOST scandal and the loan acquired by GNPC which did not go through the right procedure.

“All these scandals are pointing out that, the Akufo-Addo administration is turning the clock of time backward” he claimed.
