After President Akufo Addo announced a partial lockdown in COVID – 19 hotspot areas, many residents of these areas have travelled back to their various native homes including Afram Plains.
Information gathered indicates that many of the natives from Afram Plains who went back home are from Greater Accra where many of Ghana’s cases were confirmed.
According to sources, these people instead of going through self quarantine, for the safety of their relatives, they have decided to roam all over their various towns making it very risky for their family and friends.
What makes Afram Plains’ situation more dangerous is that both Afram Plains North and South districts (it is 1/3 of Eastern Region and bigger than Greater Accra Region) share only one hospital, located in Donkokrom, the district capital of Afram Plains North.
The distance between the various towns, villages and the hospital is very far that, if there is an outbreak of the disease, it will be very difficult to be attended to.
These towns and villages are surrounded by CHIP compounds that can not accommodate 50 Patients at a time
In case there is an out break, they will all have to depend on the only hospital in both districts.
Traveling to this hospital is already a hard nut to crack due to the nature of the roads in Afram Plains.
We humbly wish that the government, pays attention to helping the people of Afram Plains with some testing kits and more PPEs.
