Parents of Ghanaian students stuck in Wuhan-China are calling for Health Minister, Mr. Kwaku Agyeman Manu to resign from his duty post.
According to them, thousand’s of people are dying in China, and nations are evacuating their citizens but unfortunately, the Minister of Health has belittled the situation that the students are fine and that the government has sent them money.
“We the parents recently read in one of the newspapers quoting the Health minister saying the government will send shito, gari, banku and kenkey to the locked down students in wuhan and it’s environs”, they said.
Speaking on behalf of the angry parents today at the Press center, Mrs. Irene Callixta Songotu calls on President Nana Akufo-Addo as matter of urgency take steps to evacuate the students in Wuhan and it environs in a matter of days.
To Mrs. Callixta Songotu, the people are worried about the situation in China and majority of Ghanaians wonder why government has not taken any steps in bringing the students home.
The Ministry of Health of the People’s Republic of China reported to WHO, an outbreak of Novel Corona Virus Infection in December 2019. The new Coronavirus designated 2019-nCoV was first identified in Wuhan City, the capital of China’s Huge Province.
The virus has shown evidence of human-to-human transmission, with the number of cases sharply increasing to thousands with several deaths.
As of 4th February 2020, over 20,000 cases (20,604) have been reported from China and 26 other countries and the death toll stands at 427. There is no confirmed case in Ghana yet.
On 30th January 2020, the World Health Organization declared the outbreak as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.
The World Health Organization has recommended to member states to prepare and prevent further international exportation of the outbreak, by strengthening systems for containment including active, early detection, isolation, case and contact management.
