VIDEO: ENERGY COMMISSION LAUNCHES THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY

 The Energy Commission has launched its 20th Anniversary celebration to mandate to promote local content and local participation in the electricity supply industry.

Energy Commission has been playing a system leadership role which seeks to draw on the unity of purpose of all stakeholders in the quest of achievement shared goals and objectives.

Speaking at the dubber held at the premises Energy Commission, the Deputy Minister of Energy (Finance and Infrastructure) Mr Joseph Cudjoe, said the Ministry has passed through Parliamentary for approval for the purpose of regulating the energy sector.

In all, 15 legislative instruments including, (6) on electricity include the local content regulations, (4) on natural gas, and (5) on energy efficiency; and (2) Acts of Parliament and various codes of practice.  

According to him, said regulations have not been passed by Parliament but the commission is duly implementing them to the letter.

He said the Energy Commission has been playing a system leadership role which seeks to draw on the unity of purpose of all stakeholders in the quest achieving shared goals and objectives. 

Hon. Joseph Cudjoe expressed his gratitude to the past and current Board Members and past Executive Secretaries, Directors and retired staff of the commission for the services that they have rendered.

Minister speaking, pointed out that, since 2017, the energy commission has been given an additional mandate to promote local content and local participation in the electricity supply industry, in accordance with a new legislative instrument that was passed by Parliament. 

He, therefore, urged the commission, on whose shoulders local content and local participation in the electricity supply industry ties, to adopt the necessary measures to ensure that Ghana’s local content and local participation laws and regulations are duly implemented to the letter. 

He further stated that the Ministry of Energy, over the years, has provided Ministerial leadership and support to all Energy Sector Agencies, including the Energy Commission.

“I pledged to continue in the same direction to ensure that the coming years will usher the commission into bigger and momentous achievements”, he said.
