Deputy Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Mark Okraku-Mantey said the rehabilitation of Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park is part of efforts to make tourism a major source of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).

“I think we should thank President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his vision. He said he wanted tourism to be Ghana’s main source of GDP. If we want to achieve this, we need to define our resources and manpower accordingly,” he added.He said so in an interview with Bernard Avle at Point of View Media in Accra on Wednesday.

“2019 was a good year to come back but towards the end we had problems with COVID-19 so we crashed not only in Ghana but all over the world.” But we are recovering. We have now met our Q1 target, passed Q2 and know that by the end of 2023 we will be doing much better than previous years as Q3 and Q4 are our peak times in December in Ghana etc. ”

“So we know that some of these assets, such as cultural monuments and roads, need to be upgraded accordingly.”We repaired Kakum National Park.”

Mr. Okraku-Mantey emphasized that the purpose of the program was to make Ghanaians understand that tourism can be used for the development of the country in addition to cocoa and oil

“Do that I wouldn’t be surprised if Kwame Nkrumah Park takes over the Aburi Botanical Garden in the coming months. You can see that 24 hours after its opening there is a new energy, a new atmosphere.We were trending number one on Twitter yesterday,” he added.

President Akufo-Addo on Tuesday ordered the rebuilding of Accra’s Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said at the renovated memorial park the government will continue to invest in the tourism sector to boost the economy.

Meanwhile, the Family of Osagyefo Dr.Kwame Nkrumah thanked the government for the redevelopment of the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.The park was redeveloped by the government for US$3.5 million.

Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park houses the remains of Ghana’s first President and his wife Fathia Nkrumah speech at the inauguration of the park, the daughter of Dr.Kwame Nkrumah and Samia Nkrumah said the government consulted with the family about President Akufo-Addo before the clean-up. / SOKY TV / Ghana
