The University Teachers’ Association of Ghana (UTAG) has expressed optimism in the Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to help in resolving the KNUST impasse.
The two parties have failed to agree on the membership of the council, stalling its reconstitution and reopening of the school since its closure after a violent protest by students on October 22, 2018.
The chancellor is however set to make another attempt at resolving the impasse between government and the Labour Unions of KNUST with a representation of the governing council of the university.
However, National President for the Association, Eric Opoku Mensah, in an interview on Star FM, said he was hopeful the chancellor was going to help find lasting solutions to the problem.
“UTAG honoured an invitation from Otumfuo Osei during which members were urged to be patient and exercise restraint and allow the chancellor to lead the resolution process. There is no guarantee but Otumfuo has started a process and because of the deliberations we had and the respect we have for him, we want to be hopeful he will lead the process and resolve the raging issue.”
