Climate and Development Knowledge Network in partnership with the Institute of Environment and Sanitation Studies of the University of Ghana has organised workshop for Key stakeholders on IPCC Special reports on Oceans and land Use.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change(IPCC) published its special report on the Ocean and Cryosphere in 2019 which was a response to proposals from Governments and observer organisations to IPCC.

Speaking to this reporter at the workshop,Dr. Adelina Mensah,senior research fellow at IESS at University of Ghana urged stakeholders to prioritise issues on Oceans and Land so the communicate more effectively to policymakers.

This according to her,stakeholders must start thinking of targeting policymakers at the Municipal and District Assemblies and not the National levels because they need to understand the clearly because the ones who are implementing it on the grounds.

Dr.Adeline Mensah stated that Government is there to give framework guidelines, pathways,support with policies,support with budget but the work needs to done on the ground by the end of the day.

Head of Department marine and fishery science, University of Ghana, has lamented that climate change has affected the fishing activities in the country making life difficult for those in the fishing business.

He called on government to enforce the law on illegal fishing methods in the other for the fishing business to be strong so to have impact on the Ghanaian economy.
