The Nungua Traditional Council has frowned upon claims made by the people of La, Teshie and Tema that, they migrated from La in the 17th century to their present place of settlement. And they also claimed Nungua stool lands as theirs.
According to them , the map of their land size was very small but it was extended by the then governor of the Gold Coast in 1945 as per CAP 69 dated May 21, 1945. Almost all the villages of Teshie just like a La are also sited on Nungua stool lands.
The Traditional Council has alleged that , most of the villages of La , now developed communities, are sited on Nungua stool lands. These are , Madina, Okponglo, The Addo among others.
According to the Authorities, even Nungua stool lands acquired by the CPP government in the 1950’s stretching from the Nungua barrier through Santeo to Katamansu are regarded as part of Tema lands in political, Public and governmental circles of the various governments. Evidently, companies and cooperation situated on these lands even bear Tema as part of their names,” they lemented.
Addressing Journalists at a press conference in Accra, today, thursday March 14th 2019, Nii Afotey Botwe II , the King of Otinor , explained that, there is a seemingly orchestrated effort by the government’s action, (knowingly) or unknowingly , on behalf of the various governments past and present of the country being perpetuated to assist the people of La, Teshie and Tema to takeover and claim for themselves vast lands bequeathed to them by their ancestors.
Nii Afotey Botwe II , stated infactically that, creation of District, Municipal and Metropolitan Authorities have administratively reduced the original land size of the people of Nungua.
He added that these unfortunate administrative developmental maps have succeeded in making their neighbours (LA, TESHIE and TEMA) come under a mistaken belief that the land belongs to them because of the mistake made by them, consequently, they ( LA, TESHIE and TEMA) enjoy royalties and revenue which should have been paid to the Nungua stool, ” he stressed.
The Nungua Traditional Council are therefore calling on president Nana Akuffo Addo to promptly help correct all the anomalies created to date for the history of the people of Nungua, LA, TESHIE and TEMA to be appropriately written.
