Okogyeman Ankomah Basapon,Suhyenhene and Mponuahene of New Juabeng Traditional area has banned Naming Ceremony organized to officially name newborn babies in Suhyen for teenagers who give birth inthe community.

According to the chief, Suhyen is gaining notoriety for teenage pregnancy with town ranked first on the table of communities with high teenage pregnancies in the New Juabeng Municipality.

As a result ,the traditional council in collaboration with the Assembly have put measures in place to curb the worrying menace.

He added that aside the naming ceremonies, outdooring ceremonies which are organised on the first week of birth to outdoor the newborn babies have also been banned in the community for teenagers who give birth.

According to Nana Basapon, this will serve as a disincentive for teenagers who get pregnant.

Aside that, other measures have also been put in place to curb the menace. These measures include ban on playing music long hours after closure on funerals.

Nana Basapon who was speaking to mynewsghana.com said, they believe the long hours that the kids stay out is what is accounting for the increment in the number of teenage pregnancies hence the decision to implement such policies.

He stated that children below the ages of 18 have all also been banned from going to drinking spots and added that all drinking spots have also been banned from operating beyond 10:00pm.

Nana Basapon also used the opportunity to talk about weak bridges in the community, a community center built by the MP and has not been opened for use several years after its completion leaving it in the bush and turning the area in a den for lizards, frogs, mice, snakes and and other animals.

He also talked about the street naming and urged the subjects to submit suitable names for the streets in the community to his palace for consideration and onward submission to the Municipal Assembly.

Speaking at his Akwasidae Ceremony at Suhyen Palace, he advised parents in the town to take advantage of the government’s free SHS policy to enroll their wards at school and also spoke against child labour in his community.
