The Association of Newly Recruited Teachers (ANRT) in the Volta region has threatened to lay down their tools after the Easter break.

In a press statement endorsed by all the regional representatives and some national executives,
released on Thursday, 18th April, 2019, the teachers said the Ghana Education service (GES) in the Volta region has failed to give them their staff identification cards which will be used for their biometric verification.

In the statement, the teachers disputed claims by the GES that three people have been invited from the region for biometric registration.

According to them, those 3 people are not from the region because the regional officer of GES can not even provide the records of those people.

The statement revealed that, 9 out of the early 10 regions have been served except the Volta region, give the break down as;

Greater Accra…. 668
Ashanti…..333
Eastern….. 404
Western….132
Central….. 297
Northern…. 263
Upper East….090
Upper West….038

ASSOCIATION OF NEWLY RECRUITED TEACHERS (ANRT) ,VOLTA REGION CHAPTER.

Press Release :
To all media houses.
Date : 18th April, 2019

VOLTA REGIONAL EDUCATION OFFICE DRAGGING IT FEET IN THE ISSUANCE OF STAFF IDs TO NEWLY RECRUITED TEACHERS IN THE REGION.

Earlier in March the Ghana Education Service (GES) issued a communique informing newly recruited teachers about their challenges with the new Human Resource Management System (HRMS) as well as internet connectivity issues emanating from all the regions. They (GES) have therfore taken several measures to solve the problem as well as to hasten with the process.

One month after the communique and thanks to hardworking staff of GES, nine out of the ten regions have done sufficiently well in addressing the issue. The following is the statistics of work done by the various regions.
Greater Accra…. 668
Ashanti…..333
Eastern….. 404
Western….132
Central….. 297
Northern…. 263
Upper East….090
Upper West….038
Brong Ahafo…421
Volta ….. 000

We are recording 000 for Volta region because the statistics brought earlier of which 3 people are being invited from the region for biometric registration are supposedly not from the region. The reason for concluding this way is for the fact that:

  1. The Volta Regional Education Office seems not to know anything about the three people.
  2. Nobody amongst the 634 teachers posted to the region have gotten their IDs let alone being invited for biometric verification.

We are therefore heartbroken with the latest maltreatment. Therefore we are serving this notice to the GES especially the Volta Regional Education Directorate and the entire public that we will have to remain home after the Easter break to find something to feed our hungry stomachs. This has become necessary because of the revelations made by our team which visited the Volta Regional Education Office on Tuesday 16th April, 2019. That is;

  1. They (Volta Regional Education office) are still facing network challenges and they dont know when they can resolve it.
  2. Nobody in the region has received their staff ID or have been invited for biometric verification
  3. Nobody is doing any tangible work on the processing of our salaries.

We will therefore quietly ask for unqualified permission to stay with our parents and families after the Easter festivities where we can at least be fed until the regional office decides to work on our salaries. THIS IS NOT A STRIKE ACTION. We have to do this in order not to die hopelessly of hunger.

Any inconvenience caused should be blamed on the Volta regional education office for refusing to work on our salaries.

We are also using this medium to congratulate the other regional offices for their success and the great works they are doing for their staff.

Thank you.
