BAN ON IMPORTATION OF 2nd HAND & SALVAGED VEHICLES WILL AFFECT OUR BUSINESS

Government’s plan to ban the importation of cars older than 10 years into the country will greatly affect our business as spare parts dealers.

We the National Concern Spare Parts Dealers Association sides with the Automobile Dealers Union Of Ghana that, the customs law will have a negative impact on our activities.

Now If a car’s fender, bonnet, boot, or other part is broken how can somebody buy and import into the country.

We as spare parts dealers deals mostly with this second hand car dealers .

We have a lot of cars that are even older, even more than 40 to 50 years old, and they are still allowed to be driven on our roads hence there is the need for government to have a second look at the law.

It will prudent for government to have roundtable discussion with all stakeholders to come to favourable conclusions before the enforcement law in September.

Currently spare parts dealers at Abossey Okai, Komkompe , Suame Magazine among other areas are over 5000 people .

Thousands of people directly or indirectly depends of these dealers.

We are therefore calling on the government to consider all these people and businesses before enforcing the custom law.
