Henson Geodata Technologies(HGT), a Ghanaian owned youth operating company in geographic information systems(GIS) which runs its own African spatial data infrastructure(SDI) and the map has launched a mobile app to help local farmers to improve on their farm records and pest management.
MyAgro360 which currently in its pilot stage will enhance farm produce offtake and build a comprehensive agricultural database using primary data .
Speaking at the launch, Chief executive officer of HGT, Mr Kofi Henaku, PHD said the mobile app will help farmers establish a comprehensive agricultural database by keeping track of all farming activities and also empower farmers to utilise improved technologies to manage pest and diseases to increase productivity.
The CEO is of the view that MyAgro360 will establish a central community where all value chain actors can exchange information and also connect farmers to buyers as well as input suppliers.
Mr Kofi Henaku CEO,HGT, highlighted the role that new technologies can play in making agriculture more productive and profitable and reiterated the institute’s commitment to developing innovative models to empower smallholder farmers. “The app could prove to be a game changer in the field, providing farmers free, reliable and quick diagnosis of crop damage.
The simplified dashboard with easy-to-use features helps the app take on the role of an extension worker as well. The app is a novel experiment in using digital technologies for agriculture,” he said
